On Friday, he said that the event at Rio will be his last as he is bringing curtains down on his illustrious career at the upcoming event where he will be the country’s flag bearer for the opening ceremony.

The 2008 Beijing Olympic gold medalist wrote on his twitter handle

As my sporting career which lasted 20 years draws to a close on the 8th of August, this is indeed special.” – Abhinav Bindra (@Abhinav_Bindra)

Bindra, who was chosen as the flag bearer of the Indian Contingent for the opening ceremony at Rio on August 5, called it an ultimate honor.

To be the flag bearer at the Olympic Games is an athlete’s ultimate honor. I am humbled & grateful to be considered worthy of this great honor,” said Bindra.

Adding “I am sure the Indian Olympic Team would have the support of over a billion people as we march into the Rio Olympic Stadium.”

Bindra will again be competing in the men’s 10-metre air rifle event on August 8. With this appearance at the Rio event he will be making his fifth Olympic appearance this year.

Bindra has won numerous of medals in his career and at top international events including World Championships, Asian Games and Commonwealth Games. However, what one billion people wants from him is another gold medal at Rio Olympics and we hope that he clinches one at Rio.
